I am not a big Obama fan, but I will be fair and truthful when I think he has done something worth while. At the same time I don' t think I will hold my tongue if I disagree with him too. Now once again while sitting at one of my places of inspiration aka The Barbershop, I over heard a person while critisizing many of our President's policies, praising him for how smooth or "cool" he is. Now this isn't the first time I have heard something like this, but this time on hearing it, the statement sparked something in me to write. Trust me when I say I am no Bush fan either, but something about this administration just intrigues me. I don't know if it is the fact that when this fella first came on the scene people were so fascinated by him that they thought he could walk on water (which I'm still wating on him to do). Or is it because I really think he will bring about hope and change. I doubt the latter, but things "change". Honestly though, I hope my fellow African-American brothas and sistas don't think that just because our President is so "Cool" that the job that he is doing deserves to be over looked whether good or bad. Walking hip, and looking good doesn't qualify you to be a leader as well. There has to be more, like being able to make the right decision in a crisis, being able to make the right decision that benefits all and not the some. Even though all won't be satified, but in the end you know you've done the right thing. I think that Mr. Obama has the potential to be a good Commander- in- Chief, but in order for him to display these traits, he has to get away from being what the people want him to be and just be himself. But again folks (black folks inparticular) when it comes down to evaluating a leader you have to look pass the outer exterior and measure according to experience. Like I said, I think he has the ability to be great, but until we see the real man and not the "Cool" one, America will continue be in the shape it is in.....So again I ask, Is being cool just enough?
