When was the last time you heard that good ole gospel song that just touched your heart and brought you straight in the presence of the Lord. I dont know about you but I haven't felt that way about gospel music or a gospel song in a looooonnnngggg time. Especially with today's gospel artist. I find that if I really want to be in the Presence of God I have to revert to the old gospel songs of back in the day. Now don't get me wrong the new stuff has a good beat, every now and then they may mention Jesus and God and they may just tell a good story that is sometimes uplifting and inspirational....but as far as bringing me directly to the Alter of God....No, todays contemperary gospel music doesn't do it for me. Now some of you may disagree with me and say, well it doesn't have to mention God or Jesus to be Gospel, after all, the gospel is simply Good News. But in return I would say, Good News about whom...Jesus Correct. Now I know also that Good spiritual music is uplifting and inspirational...but their are times when in my life I don't need to be inspired, but I need something that will stir my spirit and assure me God is right there with me. And then, lets not talk about the showmanship we have on the so called Gospel Awards and Celebration shows. Now I am not saying that Gospel Music should not be fun and give you a good show, but when it gets to the point that when I see you on stage and I can't tell the difference between you as a gospel artist and a secular artist, something has to change. Now understand this, I am not saying that gospel artist are sinning or sinners, but what I am saying is that in this arena you first have to make sure that what you sing about you live yourselves. Make sure that you are representing the field well. Make sure that this is more than about fortune or fame for you, but about ministering to souls. Just lately there has been stories in the news about gospel artist having children out of wedlock, gospel artist having affairs, and much more..This is unacceptable. Now understand as well I am not perfect and I make mistakes, and you may say who are you to critisize....Well I am not, I am just saying that for me as well as the gospel artist we need to make sure we are representing Christ and all he stands for rather in song or spoken word as in preaching. I am sure that the day will come again when the music will bring us back to God....What do you think?
