Featured Story: Come and Enjoy a Royal Cup....

A LITTLE HISTORY
I was born in New Orleans in 1981. My family didn’t have much, materially, that is. But a ton of love pulsed through a tiny home that sheltered nine of us, four generations, together. My great grandmother used to put a spoon of coffee in my milk. I don’t know why, but I loved that almost as much as I loved her. I promised her someday I was going to own a coffee company. Though I may not have understood why I made that vow then, I know now. To me, a cup of coffee embodies peace and love.

When I was 18, I joined a musical group and went to Japan to perform. I heard that calling for 10 years, until Hurricane Katrina devastated my hometown, and family. I boarded a plane and headed home. Working with some of my business partners, I raised money to help rebuild destroyed homes and bring families back to the Gulf Coast.

I relocated to the Los Angeles area with a mission to fulfill the promise I made to my great grandmother many years ago.
I founded a coffee company. “My time is now.”

COFFEE FROM A KING’S LAND

Morgan Bailey Coffee honors the history of King Solomon with its products and brewing techniques which date back to the 13th century. One of the qualities most ascribed to King Solomon is wisdom. The king ruled over one of the greatest dynasties in Ethiopian history and continues to affect Ethiopian culture today.

CELEBRATING ETHIOPIAN COFFEE

Coffee is sacred in Ethiopia for the nation is the original home of the coffee plant. The same legendary Arabica bean still grows wild in the forest of the country’s highlands. While the discovery of coffee as a beverage remains mysterious, some authorities claim it was first cultivated in Ethiopia around AD 575.

Legend has it that Kaldi, an Abyssinian goat herder, who lived around AD 850, observed his goats behaving oddly exuberant, rearing on their hind legs and bleating loudly. He also noticed they ate red berries growing on green bushes nearby. He tried a few himself and soon felt elated. When he shared his discovery with his wife, she declared the beans heaven-sent. So,
Kaldi delivered samples to the chief Monks in the monastery.

“Devil’s work!,” exclaimed the monk as he and hurled the berries in the fire. Within minutes the monastery became filled with the heavenly aroma of roasting beans.
The monks gathered to investigate. They raked the beans from the fire and crushed. The Monk ordered the grains to be placed in an ewer and covered with hot water to preserve their goodness. That same evening, the monks drank the rich and fragrant brew. They then vowed to drink it daily to keep them alert awake and alert for their nocturnal devotions.

Through the ages, the coffee “ceremony” has long been an integral part of their social life and culture in Ethiopia. An invitation to attend a coffee ceremony is a gesture of friendship, respect and hospitality. Coffee ceremonies are ornate, beautiful and usually conducted in a traditional fashion by a woman dressed in white dress with colored woven borders.
