Editor's Note: Celebrating the Life. Bishop Lindell B. Brown 1914-2010
I have always known "of" Pastor Brown growing up as a kid at Prayer Tower COGIC, but it wasn't until I grew older and began in the ministry at the age of 16 that I got to "know" him. Instantly as I started in the ministry he became a spritual father and mentor to me. No question was to big or to small for him to answer, and even with his busy schedule when I would pull him aside and say, "Pastor, can I speak to you for a minute?" he would stop and address what I had to tell him. That's the kind of man that he was, Attentive, Concerned, Responsive. It was never, I will talk to you later, or make an appointment, it was always lets take care of it now. And you have to love and respect a man like that, that took the time out of his busy days to take care of a situation that you were in (Spiritual Father). An the one thing I know for a fact is that he loved his members. He had a heart for them, and whatever effected them effected him. Often he would say to pray for sis. so-and so or bro. so-and-so because they were in need of prayer, his members were always on his mind. Now don't get me wrong if you are reading this and it seems as if I am saying I was or am Bishop's closes confidant. No, I am just reflecting on the man I have gotten to know and want to celebrate his life and the time God has allowed me to spend with him and share it with the world. Now when I think of Pastor the one and only thing that stands out above all is that he was a True Man of God and that He Knew God and had a Real relationship with Him. he not only preached faith but he lived it everyday. I don't think there has ever been a time in his life that he ever doubted God. And because of his faith, God had blessed him to see more victories and blessings than not many get to see in their own lifetime. He had favor with God. An talk about anointed, Pastor would just walk in the church and the Lord would just move all over the place because of the anointing that was on his life. One personal story I can share was when we were arriving to church and he was getting out of sister Mable's van. He grabbed on to my shoulder to step down, and not knowing that my shoulder had been bothering me, that touch he did just to hold on made the pain go away. I mean it left instantly and my arm felt better right then and there. Now that's being anointed by God. An many may not know this, but he had a great sense of humor. He was always making us laugh when we were all (talking about is ministers) sitting around waiting for church to start or standing around after church had ended. Also, he loved children. Nothing pleased him more than to see the kids in the church sing or read a scripture, or whatever they did. That put a smile on his face like none other. But I credit him as an example for me and everyone else that have a relationship with God myself. I have learned from Pastor that you can know God, have a relationship with Him, and serve Him with joy and gladness, and that God will reward you for your service. An it is because of his relationship with God and how I've seen them interact that I want to get to Know God deeper and better. I can go on and talk about Bishop all day, but I am not. But, a part of Pastor will always be a part of me, just as he will be with all his Spiritual Sons and Daugthers. I just hope that all of the Man, the Pastor, Preacher, Leader, Spritual Father that he was, I can get to be half of that. Your legacy will live on Bishop, through all of those who's lives you have touched. You have trained us well, now it's time for you to take your rest. Rest In Peace Bishop, Servant Well Done!!!!
